The Corner goes Strait Home
From 1 July 2011 to 23 October 2011 State Library of Queensland joined the cultural precinct partners in a celebration of Torres Strait Island Culture.
Strait Home at the State Library of Queensland enabled visitors to share the stories of Torres Strait Islander people, culture and place, through an exhibition program that showcases the State library’s significant collection of Torres Strait Islander materials. Visit the State Library's Strait Home website here.
'Strait Home in The Corner' provided a vibrant and creative access point for children and families into these significant collections and exhibitions. Through play, story, sound and song The Corner celebrated the Torres Strait as a vibrant and vital part of Queensland history and contemporary life. It is important for children to build knowledge, respect and a positive relationship with the Torres Strait as an act of reconciliation and an opportunity for enriching their cultural life.
